CEU Course Description

This course was developed from the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division Fact Sheet which provides information on: the family and medical leave act; employee protections under the family and medical leave act; FMLA leave for birth, bonding, or to care for a child or parent with a serious health condition on the basis of an 'in loco parentis' relationship; employer notification requirements; employee notice requirements; qualifying reasons for leave; certification of a serious health condition; the 12-month period; calculation of leave; and the military family leave provisions. 

CEU Course Objectives

1.  Be able to describe the requirements for an employee to be entitled to take FMLA leave. 

2.  Explain the steps an employee on unpaid FMLA leave must do in order to maintain insurance coverage.

3.  Identify the criteria for a child to be recognized as a son or daughter for an employee to take FMLA leave.

4.  Discuss the requirements an employee must follow to give notice of FMLA leave and the conditions for which an employer is allowed to request certification of reason for leave.
